Our Story

Since 1995, Water in Motion has helped clients be water efficient and environmentally friendly via planning, design and implementation of innovative approaches to water use in the outdoor living environment. We collaborate with engineering and design partners to design and implement solutions that actually work. Samples of our work include:

Our approach includes incorporation of proven best practice-based design approaches and the latest technologies for efficient use or reuse of water and other inputs in the outdoor living environment. Our solutions enable those who develop or redevelop to achieve their goals while also complying with local low impact development (LID) mandates. Our team is available after project completion with services to measure and document performance of projects. We can help you assure your projects comply with water use and efficiency goals.

Timothy Malooly

President

Tim is a tireless advocate for efficient use of water in the outdoor living environment and is a national industry leader and sought-after speaker. In 2017, Tim received the MNLA Grow Results award for his commitment to the growth of Minnesota’s green industry and his numerous achievements in public affairs, locally and nationally. In 2008, Tim received the EPA WaterSense^® Partner of the Year Award – the first individual to be so honored. Tim currently serves as vice president of the Minnesota Nursery and Landscape Association (MNLA) and has served on many boards and commissions, including chair of the first-ever national Landscape Sprinkler Standard consensus committee (ICC802-2014) and the nation-leading Minimal Impact Design Standards Workgroup whose work resulted in the Minnesota Stormwater Manual, one of North America’s most progressive guides to stormwater management. Tim is a graduate of the University of Minnesota and holds many certifications and licenses.

Rich Koechlein

Landscape Architect

Rich brings to Water in Motion over 25 years of experience as a licensed landscape architect. He has worked on a variety of projects including education, athletics, water resource, commercial, residential, government, and roadways throughout the United States. Rich adds diverse skills including site planning, master planning, construction documentation, construction inspection, and graphics. Rich helped found the Minneapolis-St. Paul Chapter of Architecture for Humanity and has been working on projects in Minneapolis and around the world.
